Organic Beings Vs Mechano-Technology
After finishing as a Mechanical Engineer (HTI), Savvas Koureas (Don AnexitiloN) continued his studies in Design and Technology (Sunderland University). His interdisciplinary study offered him the chance to come by and process the complementary pairing of technology knowledge and design methods. Sharing an intimacy with the arts, his knowledge was soon incorporated into the art field, creating his own art + design studio “AnexitiloN”. His studio, located in the old town of Nicosia, functions as a permanent exhibition area of his work, accommodating art and design workshops and all kinds of cultural happenings.
Biogenetic mechano-genesis of ruinous blast
The ‘Biogenetic mechano-genesis of ruinous blast’, is an art project based on the experimental design-work of comics, with the use of various styles/techniques and means of presentation.
The work of art mainly deals with the disastrous mixture of the organic beings’ structure with the mechano-technology and the final birth of ‘Mechanogenetics’. All these, as a cross-dimensional warfare of the entities, are fighting for the prevalence of the strong.
Tracking Vaso Thoupou
Vaso Thoupou was born in Larnaca, Cyprus, in 1977. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the School of Visual and Applied Arts of Aristotle University in Salonika and later studied at the School of Ceramics of La Bisbal in Spain for a Master’s Degree in Sculpture and Ceramics. She has been living and working in Cyprus as an art teacher and painter for four years now, doing group and individual exhibitions, including her solo exhibition at ‘Gloria’s Gallery’ in Nicosia in February 2009.
Her work differentiates from being complex, and the artist prefers it to be ‘unknown’ away from long analysis and categorizations. This is reflected in her work, as many paintings feature winding paths or bridges whose ends we cannot see. They are mesmerizing and magical, giving off a sense of an ‘unsatisfactory pursuit’ on a journey, and not knowing where this journey will lead. The theme of a journey, a road, is very prominent in her work. As the artist states: ‘The road will always lead us where we choose to go’.
She is currently preparing a short series of paintings for a group exhibition held on the 9th of September, at Famagusta Gate in Nicosia, with the Universal theme of ‘The Tree’.
The current image above is a preview of the work that will be displayed in September.
