Artist of the Month - Maria Papacharalambous

Wednesday, 01 September 2010 08:34

Maria Papacharalambous is an original and versatile artist. She  paints icons in the Byzantian Style, creates video-art, conceptual photos, visual poetry and much more! The artist tries to link her work using various techniques, methods and styles of visual art.

She deals with a large spectrum of techniques based on the visual codes that she sets each time, in accordance with that which she wishes to express... transformation of humble materials into poetry, and self illuminated visions that travel in time-space.

Katerina Parpa is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, California, USA, where she studied Fashion Design, and Fashion Buying at Marangoni Istituto in Milan, Italy.

Katerina began drawing with ink while growing up and studying in California. Her high-school art teacher had given the class a drawing assignment using ink. This assignment inspired Katerina to continued using ink throughout her school years, going against all other art assignments given to her. Despite going against her teachers orders she was awarded with numerous Achievement Awards for her detailed abstract art, creative writing, and an art scholarship from the Junior Women’s Club in San Clemente, California.

Achileas Kentonis, who was born in 1963 is referred to as «The Artist of Visual Art». He enjoys a mixed educational background wherein he is both a physicist and engineer, yet has combined this with art studies. This has led him to be selected by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and other Cultural Committees, after numerous competitions and has represented Cyprus in different European and international salons/exhibitions, such as Bieniales and Trieniales, in the fields of photography, engraving, architecture, stage and costume design, installation, video art, documentary, short films and animation, though all works of art, basically, are visual.
