The Taking of a Snow Fortress

Friends considered the Surikovs to be an ideal pair. He dearly loved his wife Elizabeth. A happy homely life and two dearly loved daughters gave the artist the drive to work and work. However, after a trip to the family home of the artist in Krasnoyarsk, Elizabeth fell ill and not long after she died. For Surakov the death of his wife had a devastating effect. He wrote to his brother Alexander: “Here, Sasha, the meaning of life has been destroyed; I am struggling with the present and no doubt with the future also.”
