Michelle Theodotou was born in London in 1984 and moved to Cyprus five years later, where she grew up. She did an Art and Design Foundation course at the University of the Creative Arts (UCA) in Surrey and after discovering she wanted to study Illustration she went to Southampton Solent University and obtained a Degree in her study of choice. Since then she has worked in Fashion, had a solo exhibition in Florence, Italy called ‘United Stories of the Youth’ in March and April 2008 and participated in a group exhibition called ‘Pretty Skin’ in December 2008 until January 2009, with artists Anastasia Loginova and Katerina Iacovides. Currently, she is living in London and working as an artist. She recently presented her work at the bohemian space ‘Showcase-London.’
Painting was her first passion but after a lull of creativity during her study years she decided to pick up the camera and release her artistic expression through the lens. She takes inspiration from writing- books, lyrics, poetry. The first book being the original version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll, complete with the hand drawn illustrations. Her photographic work is illustrative and theatrical, as she likes to set up intricate sets outside a studio and create characters through these set-ups. Her future plans include revisiting her easel and paint brushes and taking part in more ‘Pretty Skin’ exhibitions with her colleagues Anastasia Loginova and Katerina Iacovides.
